Features Common to Both the Vertical Sump & Refuse Pumps
Smart Turner Heavy Duty Sump Pumps are designed and built to give efficient, dependable service with minimum maintenance on a wide
variety of wet pit applications. Column:
Standard columns to 12 ft., and longer when required, are assembled from 3, 2 and 1 ft. long cast column pipes with integral flanges and spigot fits to ensure rigidity and alignment.
Shaft:
Ground alloy, generously sized to provide torsional strength for continuous start/stop operation, and supported, at intervals of 3 ft. maximum, by a guide bushing in each column pipe section.
Plate:
Mounting plate is a rectangular fabrication with spigotted fits for column and motor stool, providing rigidity and alignment, and allowing removal of the entire pump, including discharge pipe, without dismantling.
Bearings: A heavy duty grease lubricated ball thrust bearing. All guide bushings are long with close tolerances to provide good radial shaft support. Lubrication:
Standard guide bushings are grease lubricated. Motor Stool: A rigid cast iron stool, spigotted for a 'C' flange motor, is standard. Coverplate:
Coverplates can be provided, and can have openings for controls, vents, or manhole as space permits. Controls:
Float Switch(es), Mechanical or Electric Alternator, Control Panel, High Water Alarm can be provided.
Coupling: Our standard pin and rubber coupling allows motor removal without dismantling the coupling. Drives: Motors or other drives can be provided. |

Features Specific for Vertical Sump Pumps |
Casings:
A radially split volute with integral suction cover, and flanged connections. Impeller:
Cast in one piece, the open impeller is trimmed to the exact diameter required for the service, and factory balanced to ensure smooth, vibration free
operation. The heavy section of the impeller provides excellent wear and corrosion allowance. Interchangeability: 20 pumps use only 3 column,
support plate, shaft and bearing assemblies resulting in highly efficient parts inventory. ALTERNATIVE DESIGNS
Split Shaft: For long pumps, or restricted space, a split shaft with muff coupling and column spacer can be ordered.
Liquid Lubrication: For severe services and special applications, bushings can be provided with external liquid or discharge liquid lubrication arrangements. Extended Shaft:
Flexible drive shafting between pump and motor can be provided. Cantilever Designs: Refer to page 8 of this bulletin. Non Clog Designs:
Refer to page 16 of this bulletin.

Features Specific for Refuse Pumps |
Casing:
A radial split volute with separate suction cover.
Impeller: Cast in one piece, the open impeller handles
up to 2 1/2 inch solids, is trimmed to the exact diameter required for the service, and factory balanced to ensure smooth, vibration free operation. ALTERNATIVE DESIGNS Split Shaft: For long pumps, or restricted space, a
split shaft with muff coupling and column spacer can be ordered. Liquid Lubrication: For severe services and special applications, bushings can be provided with an
external liquid lubrication arrangement. Extended Shaft: Flexible drive shafting between pump and motor can be provided but we recommend reference to us before ordering.
Dry Pit: Horizontal End Suction, Vertical Frame Mount, Vertical Flexible Shaft Drive, units are available. |
